An Introduction to CGI programming with Perl

Abstract

Ten years ago, the existence and use of the Internet was only known to a handful of scientists and computer professionals. This past Christmas, it is estimated 5 billion dollars were spent on the World Wide Web using e-commerce.

UNIX, Apache and Perl form the core infrastructure used to support e-commerce. The Common Gateway Interface, or CGI, is the communications protocol used to link it all together.

In this presentation, we'll examine the Common Gateway Interface, show how to write CGI scripts with Perl, how to read and write data with CGI, and present some tools and tips on coding CGI scripts.

Speaker Bio

David is a certified Master Perl Programmer, and has programmed extensively in Perl to create web forms and CGI scripts to interact or present user data.

David J. Young has over 15 years experience as a systems management consultant and is currently a Principal Consultant with Collective Technologies.
