The entire communications world seems to be going wireless. Cell phones are ubiquitous, and wireless networking hotspots are springing up everywhere. This talk will take a look at the current technologies and protocols used in wireless communications, from both the data and voice side. Areas to be discussed will include the various flavors of 802.11 (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth, GPRS, GSM, WAP, 1G and 2G cellular services, and what is to come with 3G and beyond. It will include a look at the pros and cons of the various offerings, the security concerns of using wireless, and how they are being addressed.
