Abstract
The Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) is an emerging Internet
standard for describing and distributing three dimensional objects
and virtual worlds across the World Wide Web. Version 2.0 of the
VRML standard was completed on August 4 of this year. VRML 2.0
allows the creation of dynamic, interactive 3D worlds that include
animation, sound, and even movies. I will give a thumbnail
description of what, exactly, VRML 2.0 is and how it can be used,
describe the process that led to the adoption of VRML 2.0 as a
standard, and will talk briefly about how I think the VRML standard
will evolve in the near future.
