Abstract
This presentation will cover the general capabilities of the vi
editor; which NON-UNIX enthusiasts consider an acronym for "Virtually
Impossible"
The presentation will:
- Emphasize what vi is intended for
- Cover the three modes of the vi editor
- Highlight features of the ".exrc".
- Highlight the proper mentality of using vi.
- Examine powerful searches.
- Examine powerful substitution features
In addition, vim (vi improved) will be covered in this presentation. Useful
examples will be provided.
Speaker Bio
Glenn is a member of the Customer Support staff at Alliance Systems / MDSI.
Glenn has over 8 years experience with UNIX system administration; with a
strong background with internal and external support. He is a sophisticated
UNIX user in the areas of shell programming, UNIX regular expression, and
Systems Administration. Glenn has spoken before on very useful topics in
UNIX related topics (shell, perl, and awk programming, and UNIX Security) at
UniForum Chicago meetings and at technical conferences such as Technetron in
Boston (1992 & 1993) and MARUG in Myrtle Beach (1995 and 1996). Glenn has
also had UNIX tutorials published in Access To Wang.
In addition to his computer background, Glenn is a prominent Fastpitch
Softball Umpire who has worked five national tournaments. Glenn's name is
enshrined at the A.S.A Hall of Fame in recognition for working three or more
national tournaments. He has the long term goal to work the Pan American and
Olympics. He has also dedicated his time coaching at softball clinics.
