Computer Simulation Tools for Engineering Managers
Prof. Barry L. Nelson
Northwestern University
Wednesday November 15th 2000 at 7:00pm
College of DuPage Room SRC 2800(a,b,c)
Abstract
Prof. Barry L. Nelson, Director of Northwestern University's Master of
Engineering Management Program (MEM), will speak on using and managing the
use of computer simulation for risk and operations analysis. He will
demonstrate some popular software for spreadsheet and systems simulation,
and then present basic principles for managing a simulation study.
Speaker Bio
Professor Nelson is interested in the design and analysis of computer simulation
experiments, particularly issues of statistical efficiency (such as
variance-reduction techniques), multivariate output analysis (such as
multiple-comparison procedures and optimization via simulation) and
multivariate input modeling (such as modeling and generation of time-series
input processes). His application areas include computer performance modeling,
quality control and manufacturing systems.
Professor Nelson teaches courses on stochastic modeling and computer simulation.
He was named McCormick teacher of the year in 1998.
More information about Dr. Nelson can be obtained from
his bio webpage, and more information about the MEM Program is
available at its webpage.
