Using Regular Expressions in GREP, AWK, and PERL

Abstract

UNIX Regular Expressions describe patterns (a sequence of characters) that you're attempting to match. Although many of the expressions can be very cryptic it is consistent with UNIX approach of brevity. With regular expressions one can formulate:

The presentation will demonstrate, through practical examples, how to use regular expressions with grep, awk, and perl. In addition, some information will also be provided on using unix regular expressions with the vi editor.

Speaker Bio

Glenn works for SDC; which produces risk assessment software for the financial trade industry. As Manager of Customer Support Operations, he oversees system administration and customer support functions. Glenn has more than 6 years experience with UNIX system administration; with a strong background with internal and external support. Glenn has spoken before on very useful topics in UNIX related topics such as shell, perl, and awk programming.

In addition to his computer background, Glenn is a prominent Fastpitch Softball Umpire who has worked four national tournaments. Glenn's name is enshrined at the A.S.A Hall of Fame in recognition for working three or more national tournaments. He has the long term goal to work the Pan American and Olympics.

Take 355 to Butterfield Rd (Rt 56). Butterfield West to Lambert Rd. Lambert Rd North to first right after College Road. Park in lots 7 or 8 and walk to SRC building. Room 1024 is on the first floor of the SRC building, near the entrance.
