Developing Web Applications with PHP

Abstract

Rapid application development is not limited to the desktop. PHP is a scripting language for creating dynamic Web pages that provides for RAD with its ease of use and rich feature set. In this presentation, we will discuss:

Running PHP on Linux and Windows

PHP language basics

Built-in functions

Tricks and tips for development

PHP 5

We will run and modify some example applications at the end of the presentation to see some concrete examples of RAD with PHP.

Speaker Bio

Jeff Jirsa works as a Senior Programmer/Analyst at Thomson Financial developing C++ and Java applications for the SpeedFeed data feed product line. Jeff developed a LAMP e-commerce site for Thomson to allow customers to sign up for services for their internet workstation product. Jeff has been using Linux since 1995, and developing web sites with Apache since 1998.

Take 355 to Butterfield Rd (Rt 56). Take Butterfield West to Lambert Rd, then Lambert Rd North to College Rd. Turn left and look for Lots 11 or 12 (M or N) on the right side of College Rd. Walk north to Building M, room 165A is on the southeast end of the building.
