Job Scheduling with Perl

Abstract
Schedule::Depend is a Pure Perl module for scheduling
jobs that are dependent on one another. Similar to the
make utility, it handles multiple jobs depending on one
another, runs jobs in parallel, can restart without
re-running jobs, and has a "continue" mode to handle
errors. The difference is that S::D has a simple syntax
and handles both Perl and shell calls without having
to wrap one in the other. This lecture will describe
two examples of using S::D, one from the data pipeline
in Wormbase the other loading a data warehouse. Both of
these projects replaced a ragtag set of shell code
with a single cron-able job.
