What comes to mind when think of JavaScript? Broken web sites, browser incompatibilities, and brittle spaghetti code? It doesn't have to be this way anymore! In this presentation, we'll take a focused look at some of the most powerful and under-appreciated features of the core JavaScript language -- prototype-based inheritance, lexical closures, and metaprogramming. We'll look briefly at what these features actually provide from a language standpoint, and then spend most of our time rolling up our sleeves and digging into real world code. In the process, we'll get acquainted with the Prototype library, and see how it extends the core JavaScript language in fascinating and clever ways. We'll finish up with a brief look at what's coming in JavaScript 2.0.

Directions to IIT - Rice Campus in Wheaton From the North or South: From I-355 (North-South Tollway), exit westbound at Rt.56/Butterfield Road and proceed west 3 1/2 miles on Butterfield Road to East Loop Road. From the I-294 (Tri-State Tollway), take the I-88 (East-West Tollway) westbound and follow directions "From the East or West" below.
From the East or West: From I-88 (East-West Tollway), take the Naperville Road exit. At the traffic light, turn left onto Naperville Road and continue north for 1\275 miles to Rt. 56/Butterfield Road. Turn right onto Rt. 56/Butterfield Road and proceed 1/4 mile to the first traffic light (East Loop Road).
