Abstract
In today's world of GUI environments, character based professionalism
has become a diminishing skill set. As people are more inclined to
drag, drop, and click with icons and GUI menus, emphasis on traditional
skill sets have diminished.
This presentation will cover the general capabilities of the Perl
programming language. This will be accomplished by:
- Outlining Perl's Origins and Capabilities
- Examining the syntax/capabilities Of Perl
- Getting the most from Perl's pattern matching operations
- Illustrating Perl's power thru useful examples
- Converting useful shell programs to Perl code
- Mastering the a2p (awk to Perl), s2p (sed to Perl) and find2perl (find to Perl) utilities
Very useful examples will be provided in the handouts which could be
utilized in your UNIX environment and supplement the subject matter.
This includes shell programs which are useful tools for the system
administrator and users.
