IPv6 resolves many deficient aspects of the current IPv4 protocol, particularly concerning the Internet's address architecture. This presentation describes the IPv4 address deficiencies and how the IPv6 address architecture resolves, and suggests reasons for the long delayed introduction of IPv6 into common carrier ISPs. In particular the talk addresses the operation of a "home router" modified to support IPv6.
Earl E. McCoy has worked in telecommunications for many years, primarily as a Member Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Holmdel, NJ; at Telecommunications Research Associates; at Tellabs Inc, Naperville, IL; and at CTCA.info as a contractor to Motorola Inc, Schaumburg, IL. While an Adjunct Professor at the US Naval Postgraduate School in 1979/1980 Earl got the ~SInternet Bug~T, in particular its strengths and weaknesses as a global communication network. Among the weaknesses of IPv4 is its address space semantics which leads to Earl's specific interest in IPv6. Earl has a PhD in EECS from the University of Connecticut.
