Emerging Trends for High Availability

Asim Zuberi & Ayaz Mudarris
Collective

Tuesday March 27th at 7:00pm
College of DuPage, Room 2800

Abstract

Several major trends are affecting the evolution of enterprise computing architectures. Shrinking budgets and the complexities associated with distributed management are encouraging a recentralization of critical resources. The availability of ever larger servers and favorable cost factors, particularly in the purchase of storage hardware, are helping to make recentralization economically feasible.

High Availabilty configurations that offer fully automated fault management have become a mainstream technology in the distributed model. Due to the increasing criticality of enterprise data, proactive availability management is becoming a necessity for more and more applications. Recentralization offers opportunities to improve overall availabilty management while reducing costs. New architectures, such as storage area networks (SANs), have emerged to supplement these architectures and to offer more choices to improve performance, availabilty and management.

The purpose of this presentation is to educate the viewer about SANs technology, and secondly to to focus on the features of a high availability management tool.
