Abstract

DNS is the method used on the Internet to translate names to IP addresses and from IP addresses to names. Setting up and maintaining DNS is vital to the reliability of any network connected to the Internet. Correct procedures and an understanding of the theory behind how it works will make it much easier to maintain and to debug problems.

Speaker Bio

Mike Beirne has been using UNIX since running the "learn" program on a PDP 11/45 under UNIX version 6. He has been a UNIX System Administrator for 15 years, was the founding Secretary of /usr/group/chicago and has been helping the "Clout" email project for at least 10 years.

Getting to the meeting

The next meeting of UniForum Chicago will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at the College of DuPage. The address of the meeting facility is:

Take 355 to Butterfield Rd (Rt 56). Take Butterfield West to Lambert Rd,
then Lambert Rd North to 22nd St. Turn left and look for lot 10 on the left side of 22nd St.
Walk to building K, room 161 is on the first floor, on the east side of the building.
