General Meeting

The Software Maturity Model: A Case Study

Mike Potter
LIDP

Tuesday, May 25, 7:00-9:00 pm
College of DuPage Room IC-3125

Abstract

The Software Engineering Institutes' Capability Maturity Model allows software professionals to compare their software projects to the well documented model and then make decisions on what the next logic evolution of their software process should be.

The benefits of the CMM are that it can be understood in hours and put into practice quickly. There are no rigorous documentation requirements that detract from the real goal of improving software. It is an engineer friendly model.

Speaker Bio

Michael Potter has worked at LIDP for 9 years in which he was first hired port a mainframe application to UNIX. This was accomplished by writing a CICS emulator. The emulator was so successful that now all of LIDP's development takes place on UNIX using the emulator, and is ported back to the Mainframe for QA testing. Because the development takes place on UNIX, it is natural to use the power of UNIX to improve the software process. This has been Mr. Potter's latest efforts at LIDP.
